Since I don’t return to class for another 10 days or so I’ve been looking into putting some time into updating the website for the clothing line I started with my dude QB from The Websters.

Currently the Music Integrated Clothing (MIC) website runs on Drupal 6.0 with Ubercart. The system runs just fine but the site needs a freshening up and I figured I would update the underlying infrastructure while I’m have time.

Drupal 7 with the new Drupal Commerce system looks very promising and the Commerce Kickstart profile is very slick.

I’ve also been looking at how we can make the screen printing of our shirts more “on-demand” so we don’t have to keep inventory on hand and incur a large up-front capital expense. We like to make sure all of our designs are something we would actually want to wear so we try to make sure that the quality is top-notch. This requirement really leaves no other option other than standard screen printing and not the medium quality one gets with sites such as Cafe Press.

It looks like there is finally a good on-demand (read “one off”) screen printing site at Shirtbot.co I’m going to give them a try with some of our already completed shirt designs and see if they can deliver on the quality that we’ve come to expect from our friends at Screen Prints and Embroidery. All of our bulk orders will continue to go through SP&E as they are local and it is important to support your local businesses.

This type of blog entry will go up on the new MIC Blog site once the it’s up and running, I just wanted to get it out there as part of my 2013 “Write More Frequently” New Year’s Resolution.

I hope you all are having a wonderful new year so far.

Peace,
Flux.
